Alban Berg Monument in Front of the Vienna State Opera
The Alban Berg Monument honours Austrian composer Alban Berg (1885–1935), one of the most important representatives of the Second Viennese School. Designed by Wolf D. Prix and Sophie C. Grell (Coop Himmelb(l)au), the sculpture responds with elegant arcs to the expressive lines of Berg's music. The base consists of twelve steps — a reference to twelve-tone music.
Becker Guss carried out the demanding aluminium casting of this approx. 5-metre-high, roughly 2-tonne sculpture. The monument was unveiled in 2016 on behalf of the Alban Berg Foundation and, illuminated at night, has become a landmark on the Opernring.
